Major activities include: 1) Training of activists to disseminate preventive measures against HIV/AIDS and provision of assistance to PLwHIV/AIDS; 2) Raising awareness of the sexually active people to undertake HIV tests; and 3) Multiplying and demonstrating the methods of growing plants/vegetables that improve the variety for PLwHIV/AIDS.

Project Description: The objective of this grant is to 1) Form a group of trained HIV/AIDS community leaders in the rural community (Maluana); 2. Trained community leaders will have the capacity to facilitate discussions and disseminate proper information on HIV & AIDS and issues related to prevention, care, support and facts on stigma and discrimination; 3) Mobilization of the community in dissemination of information on the impact of HIV and food insecurity on the community; 4) Accessibility/production of appropriate HIV & AIDS IEC materials to the rural community; 5) Accessibility of condoms to the rural community (Maluana); 6) Development of kitchen gardens for additional nutritional values in the diets of the community members (especially children and those suspecting they are living with HIV) and assistance in the fight against food insecurity. Major activities include: 1) Organizing sensitization and training workshops for community leaders and influential people among the community; 2) Distribution of IEC materials and condoms; 3) Organizing and implementing the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial 2004; 4) Organizing HIV& AIDS community outreach activities; 5) Installation of a kitchen garden demonstration; 6) Monitoring of activities; and 7) Production of appropriate IEC material (Picture codes).

Project Description: The objective of this grant is to: 1. Mobilize the community leaders to accept speaking about the effects of the pandemic in the community as well as in the press so that other people may follow the example; 2) Mobilize youth leaders to speak up about the effects and consequences of HIV/AIDS in the religious groups where they are influential; 3) Educate the community for attitude and behavior change when dealing with HIV/AIDS victims. We hope that many religious leaders will speak openly about HIV/AIDS in the community; and 4) Direct the participation of youth and community leaders in finding local solutions in the fight against discrimination against HIV/AIDS victims. Major activities include: 1) Organizing one meeting with the community and religious leaders, two with youths and one joint meeting with both leaders and youths in order to increase their awareness about HIV/AIDS impact; 2) Printing 200 t-shirts, 300 pamphlets and posters to sensitize the community against discrimination of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PlwHA) by participating in programs of a day reserved for the fight against AIDS; and 3) Find a space in one of the mass media with the widest coverage for the leaders to have an opportunity to sensitize other leaders against discrimination against PLwHA as well as encourage the infected people to break the silence.

Project Description: The objective of this grant is to 1) Involve drivers, conductors, supervisors and associate members in the transmission of messages about the fight against HIV/AIDS. Each taxi operating in our district must display the symbol of the fight against HIV/AIDS in the rear windscreen; drivers and conductors must wear t-shirts and caps about HIV/AIDS. Our supervisors at Xiquelene, Romão and Albazine terminal stations should possess knowledge about HIV/AIDS as well as have condoms for sale to the gathered crowds. ATHAP has been sensitizing its drivers, conductors and associate members to do HIV/AIDS tests and to change their sexual behavior. Once every ATHAP promotes sanitary education activities and explains to its associates the usage of condoms and the need of being faithful to ones partner, we explain to the transporters that they may be carriers of HIV/AIDS and that they can play a vital role in the education of passengers about HIV/AIDS and stigmatization of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PlwHA).

Major activities include: 1) Lectures on stigma and discrimination in the families or affected families about HIV/AIDS and how to fight it 2) Educational and vocational activities, such as embroidery, tapestry manufacturing, catering and agriculture in order to occupy the child whilst learning; and 3) Free drawings so that the child expresses his/her feelings in them.

Project Name: Informal Markets in the Fight Against HIV/AIDS

Project Description: The objective of this grant is to 1) Involve all sellers to fight against HIV/AIDS in informal markets; 2) Use sellers of barracas to pass the message about HIV/AIDS. Promote lecture at markets and use of barracas to inform the public the risks of this disease. Paint the toilet with HIV/AIDS publicity; and 3) Make the informal market a permanent place to fight against HIV/AIDS using our men in the field to sell condoms and pass the message. Major activities include: Nwanamamane organisation has in all informal markets of Maputo city, public sanitation that is used by sellers and the public in general. Our members will pass the messages to sellers about the fight against stigma and discrimination for the People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). We promote sanitary education to sellers on prevention of disease, such as cholera, malaria and others, through barracas cleaning in co-ordination with sellers commission of informal markets.

Project Description: The objective of this grant is to 1) Guarantee counselling and subsequent follow-up to enable people to be aware of their HIV status and receive support so that they may then inform the relatives of their status without fear or discrimination; 2) Upgrade people living with HIV/AIDS to improve knowledge on the ways of transmission and non-transmission; 3) Upgrade members of the community on HIV/AIDS and counselling so that they may inform other members of the community about the disease, since what is at stake is lack of knowledge of ways of transmission and non-transmission. Major activities include: 1) Upgrading people living with HIV/AIDS and members of communities in the field of HIV/AIDS and counselling so that they may inform correctly about the disease; 2) Holding talks and door-to-door information, as well as debates in small groups, preferably with the witnessing of people living with HIV/AIDS in companies, institutions and residences; 3) Carrying out debates on radio and TV, with active participation of people living with HIV/AIDS, with the theme discrimination and stigmatisation – whenever possible, using a local language; 4) Providing interpersonal and family counselling; 5) Producing educative material with clear messages of HIV prevention; 6) Producing T-shirts with messages against discrimination and stigmatisation; 7) Carrying out marches in the ward with the active participation of local structures and residents, etc.
