Project Description: The objective of this grant is to reduce HIV/AIDS stigma in the community – Van Rooyens Gate, Mafeteng. We will train our patients with HIV/AIDS to accept themselves and feel relaxed in their communities. We will have four training sessions for training 35 persons in six months. We will train the communities on the facts of stigma brought about by HIV/AIDS. Four trainings in all; we will train 120 people (40 women, 40 men and 40 youth) by the end of June 2004. Major activities include: 1) Selecting 35 persons for training and inviting people living with HIV; 2) Selecting the venue and buying the materials; 3) Training them on the HIV/AIDS stigma and good health; 4) Asking the chiefs to call public gatherings in the van Rooyens communities to make a plan for the training of the people on the HIV/AIDS stigma; 5) Inviting 2 more facilitators to come and help with the training; 6) Training men, women and children in the next six months; 7) Buying materials; 8) Reporting on the training; 9) Monitoring and evaluating on the training agreement.

We will train 50 people in the Thamae area. To create public awareness on the issues surrounding stigmatizing the patients and the families infected and affected. These activities are planned to be done in the time-period of 2nd quarter of the project; 3) To organize public gathering in Thamae community for everybody and regular follow ups by time period of 3rd and the quarter of the project.

Project Description: The objective of this grant is to strengthen the psychosocial and parenting skills of orphan carers in 5 villages of Maseru District. Major activities include: 1) To educate 360 community members in 5 villages of Maseru District about HIV/AIDS including de-stigmatization during the first four months of the year; 2) To conduct three 3-day trainings for 60 support group members from 3 villages in Maseru district during the 2nd quarter of the year; 3) To hold 5 meetings with 150 community members to revive support networks that strengthen psychosocial concepts in 5 villages of Maseru District during the 2nd quarter.
