Project Description: Key to a reduction in risk behavior in IDUs is their reintegration into the community. This provides them with a greater feeling of acceptance and self-esteeem and gives them other options to the uptake and unsafe use of drugs. To this end, the Thai National AIDS Foundation is supporting Alden House, a half-way house which provides treatment literacy, HIV prevention, a healthy choices program, risk-reduction training, vocational training, and employment placement to IDUs.

Major activities include: 1) Training workshop to increase quality and capacity of core community leaders, community networks and community volunteers, to brainstorm and discuss solutions for the problem of HIV/AIDS in their community; 2)Raising awareness about HIV/AIDS issues by holding workshops for community leaders, door to door visits, and organizing a forum for community members to discuss and identify the community problems relating to AIDS and develop solutions for these problems through participation; 3) An open forum to discuss strategies and work plans for each sub-community, groups and networks. The objective here is to conclude the achievements of the project, future plans and strategies and a SWOT analysis on each sub-community, groups and networks, and formulating a long term strategic plan for activities that will respond to the problems of HIV/AIDS in the community.

Major activities include: 1) A camp workshop for newly infected HIV/AIDS victims educating them on how to look after themselves and where to seek general help and assistance; 2) A forum which will become a space where knowledge and information is exchanged among core People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) leaders in collaboration with state organizations and the private sector; 3) Training of PLWHA volunteers to offer a service at the hospital day care providing care and support to newly infected HIV/AIDS patients; 4) Increase capacity building in the areas of employment and self sustainability of those PLWHA; 5) Visiting trips to group members of PLWHA.
