Region: Asia
Location: Cambodia
Areas of Focus: Care and Support for People Living with HIV/AIDS and Affected Communities; HIV Prevention
Project Description: With support from the CORE Initiative, Ponleur Komar is able to expand its program and coverage, by reaching more than 3,500 children in 29 villages in Bakan district with care, support, prevention and mitigation services. The Thai Tuam Komar (Care for Children) project contributes to building the future of orphans and vulnerable children through three strategies. Thai Tuam Komar builds the capacity and commitment of the local community to provide locally appropriate care for OVC. Thai Tuam Komar also provides OVC with the opportunity to learn, play and participate in the village and school environment. Moreover, Ponleur Komar through its Thai Tuam Komar program, aims to provide support to older OVC to develop marketable skills so they can meet their own basic needs.
